Having dined here before my expectation was high. Lisa Goodwin Allen is an exceptional chef. However, on my recent visit with my husband the quality of the cooking was lacking, which makes me think it was Lisa’s night off. I started with squab pigeon which, whilst extremely flavoursome,was awkward to cut with sinew down one side. Not a Michelin quality dish- I then had a piece of Halibut which sadly was slightly over cooked and swimming in an extremely pungent parsley sauce. Very disappointing. Not the usual standard at all. I did mention the meat being on the tough side to the female server, who just apologised for my not liking it. Standards should not be allowed to drop when delivering a Michelin experience. Fish doesn’t need a strong punchy flavour as my husband also found with his starter Scallop.

Really enjoyed our lunch experience with friends and my young granddaughter. The staff were absolutely wonderful with her and made us all feel so welcome (whispering to us when the little one was sleeping then welcoming her like a special guest when she woke up and joined the party). The food was excellent, ambience great but most of all the food was absolutely outstanding. Many thanks to the whole Northcote team …

Celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. What can I say 5 stars all round location, bedroom, staff and food and of course wine ! Nice touch as we received a room upgrade, Anniversary card and sweet treats after the meal. Everybody if they can must do a Northcote. We were treated like royalty a weekend to remember. Thankyou.

My husband and I booked a one night gourmet break for our 30th wedding anniversary. I am coeliac and have to eat a strict gluten free diet. I contacted the hotel to check they could cater for me, and boy did they. The room was lovely and comfy with a ceiling fan and Dyson desk fan which was needed as very warm night. In with the tea and coffee supplies were some gluten free biscuits - never been supplied with that at any hotel before. Also a card wishing is a happy anniversary was a nice touch. The gourmet meal was amazing. The food was just outstanding with flavour sensations we have never experienced before. My gluten free menu was virtually the same as my husbands, so I did not miss out on anything, just a few adaptations to make it suitable for me. We accompanied it with the wine flight and so clever how the wines compliment the food so well. Some great cocktails to enjoy, our favourite was the banana rum old fashioned. Lovely breakfast in the morning. My husband had an English breakfast whilst I enjoyed the Lancashire cheese souffle. The staff were all extremely friendly and made our stay extra special. Not something we can afford to do often, but will definitely be back.

Stunning food. Great wine. Lovely bedroom. Quiet scenic location in Ribble Valley in rural location in Lancashire. Very attentive staff. We stayed for the gourmet 5 course dinner and bed and breakfast in a ground floor garden bedroom. Only suggestion is to place TV in bedroom higher on wall facing bed. A minor point so guest can watch TV in bed! We will be back soon and will stay for longer!
