Fabulous food, attentive, polite, knowledgeable staff in the restautant. Nice atmosphere in the rrstsurant and bar. Tasteful Xmas decorations! The room we stayed in was comfortable and warm, and we enjoyed a great night's sleep. The reception staff were great; helpful and friendly. Thanks for an amazing stay.

Lovely warm welcome at reception on arrival and a very quick check-in. Room was beautiful, I was in Room 10. Huge comfortable bed, shower and bath in the well equipped bathroom, with an additional little work area with desk and chair to the side of the room as well as a courtesy tray with tea, coffee and home-made ginger cookies- nice touch. After settling in I went to the lovely cosy bar lounge and had a delicious Spiced Appletini cocktail after my 3 hour drive. Delish. THE MAIN EVENT Dinner was booked for 7:15 and I went down a bit early for another delicious cocktail before it. A rather special Christmas Snowball had caught my eye and boy was it superb. I’ve always adored a Snowball even as a small child, for a treat at Christmas, but the Northcote one was an absolute masterpiece. Who couldn’t like advocaat, lime cordial, Tio Pepe sherry and Louis Roderer champagne! Dinner and service were superb with a beautiful Seasonal Gourmet menu. Course after course of deliciousness and the slickness of service added to the experience. A big shout out to the young lady who served me some of the courses including the cheeses - she was a ray of sunshine and exuded warmth. Obviously she was proud of what she was doing and loved her position. Disappointment - 4 of the 6 glasses of wine as part of the wine flight offered with Dinner unfortunately did compliment the food in any way whatsoever. The only 2 wines that were perfectly paired were the Chardonnay on the Monkfish course and the Guidalberto on the Venison course. These both were absolutely spot on. This was my 54th Michelin Star dining experience and overall I really enjoyed it, just the small issue with the wine pairings tainted the experience slightly for me.

An amazing experience staying at Northcote. The staff were very welcoming and a lovely atmosphere , everyone was so helpful , polite and professional with it . The hotel made my stay perfect the best hotel I have staying in they couldn’t have done more , I would definitely recommend. The restaurant was amazing food , I’ll definitely be back it was a wonderful day all round , thank you everyone x

The welcome was slick and professional yet amazingly relaxed. We had an excellent lunch with paired wines which is a terrific way to try new things. The experience was exquisite. Our room was comfortable with a huge bed. The staff were all friendly yet really knowledgeable. The views were mostly great but the proximity to a major road produced several blue lights which passed quickly.

I took my husband here for his birthday, as usual it was brilliant, the staff are wonderful, the food was to die for, and the cocktails well say no more. All in all a fantastic night.

Excellent hotel, with an emphasis on service , with the added bonus of having one of the finest , or probably the finest restaurants in the North of England. (Some say the UK , and I would not disagree ??)

I have followed Northcote since the days of Nigel Howarth and wanted to visit ever since. However, I was disappointed, especially with 3 of the 5 Seasonal Gourmet courses. The first sign of any issue began when an email, which was subsequent to the original confirmation, arrived informing us that we would be staying in a superior room at greater cost to the package with classic room that I had originally booked. This email also showed a later dining time than originally chosen. I emailed Northcote but the reply asked me if the details I’d stated were correct so I had to telephone. I said I appreciated the upgrade but was not happy to pay extra. It was agreed that the original fee would stand with the upgraded room. The room was rather dark with tired brown wooden furniture. There was a nice outdoor terrace but we did not have much chance to use it as we had travelled south from a visit to a different, and far superior, Michelin starred establishment where we had enjoyed a fantastic 8 course dining experience and beautiful light and airy modern room complete with Dyson hairdryer. On opening the wardrobe at Northcote I found a very old tatty silvered hairdryer with lots of the silver coating missing. Needless to say I didn’t bother using it. The cocktail service was excellent and great effort was made to ensure that my drink was made the way that I like it. The first course of Lobster was lacking flavour and the tiniest portion of lobster I have ever been served. The Tomato goats cheese course was delicious and full of flavour. The Quail had a skin on it that when cut resembled a prophylactic and the mushroom “sludge” type sauce looked most unappealing when poured over. The pickled mushrooms also made the dish taste very odd. This was followed by a finger sized portion of turbot that also had its soggy inedible skin left on which had to be removed. In fairness the server did ask if I’d like a different dish in place of these courses when she collected my uneaten plates but that would have been very disruptive at that stage in the meal. Thankfully the Strawberry clotted cream final course did not disappoint. On retiring to our “Superior” room we found that the air con would not set to anything below 23 degrees which was too hot for sleep. There was a fabulous Meaco standard fan aswell as a ceiling fan in the room to compensate somewhat. The ceiling fan was too noisy to leave on overnight. Sadly we do not feel we would want to return to Northcote. It could learn a huge amount from the restaurant with rooms that we had stayed at the previous night.

We stayed at Northcote to celebrate a big birthday. Its been our family’s go to place for special occasions and never disappoints. We arrived to find we had been given a room upgrade - something that never hapoens to us normally so made a special weekend even more special. The rooom was beautiful - very luxurious and every need catered for. The dinner was fantastic, but what always makes Northcote special is the staff. Without fail, they are all friendly and approachable. They are Northcote’s treasure. Breakfast, as always, was beautiful. So thank you for another beatiful memory!

We wanted to take our 16 month old daughter for her first Northcote experience as it is somewhere very dear to our family. We were quite nervous about our visit and hoping everything would go smoothly with our toddler! We had no reason to be concerned, every member of staff went above and beyond to look after us & engage with our daughter. The lovely sommelier who played peekaboo with her & gave her an adorable teddy, Lisa who helped us with highchair trouble, just to name a few. We had Lisa's seasonal lunch and it was absolutely superb, my husband had the supplementary Lake District lamb which was divine. Our daughter was also very well catered for with the most delicious chicken, chips and veg - which she absolutely loved. Our visit today has only further cemented our love for Northcote & we look forward to visiting for many more years.
