Upon our arrival at Broadoaks we were greeted so warmly and when we mentioned we were returning for our Anniversary we were treated like royalty!! We must admit we were slightly dubious and abit worried as there have been a few bad reviews recently! We certainly need not have worried!! We stayed in the Pine room and it was as beautiful as always! It like our second bedroom as we have stayed many times over the 14 years since we married there! We had a complimentary bottle of prosecco in our room and a beautiful card to wish us a Happy Anniversary. The food on both nights was lovely very fresh and cooked beautifully! The lamb dish is exceptional. I really enjoyed the smoked salmon and king prawns salad for my starter. Breakfast on both mornings were absolutely amazing. Very tasty and lots of choice on the menu! The staff at Broadoaks are so friendly and go above and beyond to make sure you have the best stay! I dont believe anything has changed at Broadoaks maybe there were a few teething problems with staff not sure however it was as delightful as ever and we didn't want to leave. Thankyou so much Broadoaks for your hospitality and we will see you next Feb!!

For the last 10 years Broadoaks has been our favourite place to stay in the Lakes. We first stayed for my 40th birthday, and recently returned for my 50th. We have stayed many many times in-between. In all that time we have never had a bad stay. Something has clearly changed. We stayed in the Boudoir room as it's our favourite and the list of issues seemed endless. Tap hanging off the bath. Horrible smell of drains once you started the jacuzzi, we had to get straight out. Lights hanging off the ceiling. Missing smoke detector. All the outside lights were broke, it's pitch black at night and the steps are steep. We asked for our cream tea to be served in our room and despite repeated chases it didn't ever arrive. On all previous stays, when you went for dinner you were taken into the music room where you could have a drink, look at the menu and enjoy some canapés. This time we were rushed straight to our table. The main dining room was closed off so we were sat at the top where it was cold and soulless. The food was always exceptional but this time it was terrible. Horrible dry lamb, that tasted like it had come from a can, hard veg, and everything was cold. We were later told that the old head chef has left, god knows who the new one is. Breakfast followed a similar pattern. Again we were sat in the cold top of the dining room. The food was cold and the normally exceptional ingredients etc felt cheap quality. You used to always get an amazing continental selection but this time is was just cereal and yogurt. The only bright spark of the whole stay was Lewis, who served us at night. He was such a friendly, funny guy and we had a laugh with him. He made us both a free drink when we told him how bad our meal was. On checkout we told the girl at reception all our issues, she wrote everything down and told us she would pass to the manager. Several days later we hadn't heard anything so I called up and spoke to the manager. She told me nothing had been passed to her. She asked for a few days to investigate and she would get back to me. It's been several weeks now and despite several emails and calls she hasn't ever got back to me. Such rude, terrible service. I can't help thinking that some major cost cutting measure are in place and the standards have fallen so far, so quickly. Needless to say we won't be returning, which is such a shame as it really was an excellent place to stay.

This place was once our bolt hole. We celebrated milestones here, returned again and again, and recommended it without hesitation. What it has become is genuinely heartbreaking. Marketed as a prestigious hotel, the reality is now a long way from that claim. A business has clearly taken over with one priority: weddings. In doing so, the life, soul and guest experience have been completely stripped away. Cost-cutting is obvious everywhere, yet prices remain firmly premium. The service is nowhere near the standard being advertised. Staff are poorly trained and not equipped to deliver what this hotel claims to be. Breakfast was frankly awful and felt like an afterthought rather than part of a luxury stay. The only exception was Lewis. He was friendly, funny and clearly cared about his service — the sole reminder of what this place used to stand for. Sadly, one good member of staff cannot carry an entire hotel. All the small, thoughtful touches that once made this place special have gone. The warmth has been replaced with something cold, corporate and soulless. What was once unique now feels like a wedding factory with guests secondary to the business model. We won’t be returning, and that’s not said lightly. This place held years of happy memories for us. To see it reduced to this is deeply disappointing — not just as guests, but as people who genuinely loved it.

Spent 3 nights here for Christmas and everything was absolutely spot on. Room was wonderful . Every staff member couldn’t do enough for you. Food outstanding and plentiful . Drinks prices reasonable. Stunning location . Try it , you might just love it .

If you're looking for an afternoon tea experience that is as charming as it is delicious, look no further than Broadoaks. Everything about our visit was simply wonderful! From the moment we arrived, the staff—specifically the kind and helpful young men—made us feel so welcome. They were genuinely friendly and went above and beyond, even lighting a lovely fire for us, which created the perfect cosy atmosphere. That level of attentiveness is rare and truly appreciated. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful, private space to ourselves in the gorgeous environment of the country house. It felt like a true retreat. And the food? Absolutely delicious, with incredibly generous portions. We certainly didn't leave hungry! Broadoaks has perfected the art of afternoon tea, combining a beautiful setting with top-notch service and exquisite treats. In short: An afternoon of pure indulgence. Highly, highly recommended!

This use to be one of our favourire venues and we would visit throughout the year. What always made Broadoaks so special were the staff and the lovely welcome you would get. Not any more, and forget all the little touches that made you keep coming back. At a 5 star hotel you shouldn't be having breakfast canteen style with below quality food. Staff should know how to make cocktails and the difference in cheft is noticable. Looks like we need a new bolthole

We stayed in the “yew” room which was not in the main hotel. The room smelt damp and also the bedding appeared to feel damp too. The hot buffet breakfast was barely warm and the plates were cold which made the food go even colder very quick.

We stayed at broadoaks for the third time and this stay was far below the standards that were set on previousl stays. On arrival we were 30 minutes early and made to wait until exactly 3pm which isn’t a big issue but could have been managed better and the receptionist made you feel like it was an imposition. We had a free drink with the stay but couldn’t get a cocktail as the the bar staff weren’t trained. The evening meal was the highlight very good food. Breakfast was buffet style and more in line with a village hotel than a country house. In general it want as welcoming as previous visits made to pay for every drink like they were expecting you to run away without paying not the warm welcoming hotel it was and we won’t be going for a fourth time.

Beautiful location services were poor, Bar closed at 9pm restaurant was closed and we were not informed. Nearest eatery 30-40 minutes away. Receptionist was very unhelpful and unfriendly. Bathroom was dangerously small, bedroom was small but cosy bed mattress sagged at the sides and you felt like you were going to fall out.

We visited this beautiful country house hotel for my youngest daughters wedding. What can I say? 5 star all around . Izzy and her wedding planning team working with my daughter and son in law were amazing. Their attention to detail , friendliness and professionalism were 5 star. In terms of the hotel and their staff well we stayed the night before and Kayleigh ,Deanna and Lewis but all of them were so friendly made you feel special and had the human touch . The evening meal was perfect 3 courses of superb quality served by the most attentive and friendly waiting team . The wedding breakfast drew so many highly positive comments . Everyone I heard said it was the best wedding meal they'd had . The rooms are amazing we were in the old Coach house beautiful decoration the most comfy bed even for me at 6ft 5 . An outstanding hotel in a very beautiful location with an outstanding team at every helm . Congratulations to you all as you made our daughters special day so very special. Good luck to you all will be back soon
