Guest：If you are fortunate, as my wife and I were last week, to have the opportunity to lodge at the beautiful Hotel Macao Beach in Samara, we urge you not to miss it. Among the many places that we have stayed during our forty-three years together, this is unquestionably among our very favorites. All of the rooms are within a few steps of the wonderful, clean, sand beach, at the edge of which reclined chairs, shaded by palm trees, are provided for guests. Our room was comfortable for the two of us, and the housekeepers were outstanding, cleaning and tidying it daily. We very much enjoyed the delicious breakfast, included with our room, served at the Hotel Locanda, a two- or three-minute walk along the beach. (We recommend the"tipico" breakfast option: the Gallo Pinto there was our favorite among various servings of that dish that we have sampled in Costa Rica.) The courtyard jacuzzi, located directly in front of our room, was pleasant and relaxing. Hotel Macao Beach's location is ideal - an easy walk to several beachfront and other restaurants serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including the wonderful beachfront restaurants we visited (Hotel Locanda, mentioned previously, and Gusto Beach, which offers, with its delicious food, live music many evenings), as well as to a market, a nice food court (where I enjoyed a yummy, refreshing mango-pineapple-passion fruit smoothie each afternoon), and into town. Among the hotel's many fine features, its finest, certainly, is its staff: each and all of them - reception, maintenance, and housekeeping - were so friendly and helpful to us before, throughout, and even following our stay. We are grateful to Laura especially. We are already planning and eagerly anticipating our next stay - if we are so fortunate - at the wonderful Hotel Macao Beach in Samara! I hope that I have conveyed to you how highly we recommend it!
Guest：This is a gem of a spot, right on the beach! The price is great and includes breakfast, air-conditioning, and hot water. The location and landscaping can't be beat. The breakfast was excellent and big portions. I did have an issue with the shower leaking the second night, but it was too late to go buy parts to fix it, but they got in there immediately to see what they could do. Also the second night, I had a bunch of what looked like flying ants. It's Costa Rica and bugs are normal, and after a couple hours they stopped coming in. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere is great!
Guest：A beautiful location with a lovely courtyard right on the beach. There is an outdoor shower and pool in the courtyard to refresh you, if you don't want an ocean swim. There are beach recliners available so that you can relax and enjoy the view under shady palm trees in front of the hotel, but many are broken and won't stay on the correct settings. The staff is friendly and helpful; we so appreciated their warmth and responsiveness. However, if you like to sleep later in the morning, this may not be the place for you. Groundskeepers begin raking and stabbing the leaves in the courtyard starting at 5:45 am and it can be difficult to sleep through because... the rooms with no AC have no windows, only screens. It can be romantic but also annoying if you don't want to smell the night watchman's cigarette or share in the groundskeepers quick ***** puff at 7:00 am, lol! We stayed in the idyllic-looking Room #2. One night I was rained on in the bed when the wind blew the weather in. And it's hot at night if there's no breeze. Recommend getting one of the AC rooms with windows that close. Breakfast in Hotel Locanda two doors down was basic but nice. We found the staff there a bit surly, which is odd because it's the same owner as Hotel Macao and everyone at Macao was very kind. Restaurant next door was sometimes noisy, as they have live amplified music 2x a week or so. There is a a shared fridge for guests behind the front desk, and twice someone stole a beer or two from our assigned area. The staff didn't seem very concerned when we reported it.
Guest：Relaxing and beautiful. We spent three nights in the beginning of May at the hotel. It’s located right on the beach in front of a surf break. Plenty of restaurants nearby and within walking distance. We rented a car and didn’t move it for the entire stay. The staff is very attentive and always available to help. Samara beach is a wonderful place to visit.
