Stayed in an outside dog friendly room. Room was lovely, really warm and comfy bed. Coffee facilities replaced as well as the biscuits. Great treat box for our dog, biscuits, a toy, poop bags and bowls and a small towel to use. Made a mistake by not booking a table the first night as it was completely booked but a lovely lady (I’m sorry we didn’t get your name but was had blonde tied back hair) went out of her way to sort us out…. So thank you very much to her. The food is lovely, we also had the Sunday lunch the next day. All the staff are really welcoming and dog friendly. Overall we would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Spent 3 nights here in between Christmas and New Year . Booked a king room with outside access. The room was great , very clean ,roomy ,warm and had everything we needed . Comfy bed ,large clean towels ( could have them replaced when needed) ,big shower with toiletries, a fab TV ( easy to use ,had Netflix,I player, YouTube etc) and plenty of tea/coffee ( they even brought a packet of biscuits each ,every day ) . The hotel is in a good position, about 10 mins from Bowness and is surrounded by stunning views . Despite it being cold the addition of a rattan furniture set outside our own patio door was brilliant, and ideal for a bit of peace and a nice coffee. We had booked the dining room for our first evening and were glad we had as it was very busy . The choice and quality of food was excellent and the staff went out of their way to be friendly and meet your every need . We did think the drinks were pricy though , £11 for a baileys coffee ( when the actual baileys was only £4 ) seemed a bit steep ( delicious though!) Breakfast was also fantastic, so much choice and again really tasty , a large selection of continental then a pre ordered hot course . I was pleasantly surprised to find an option for pancakes or porridge as well as loads of egg and meat dishes. We couldn't fault it . The only minor complaint we had is that there is nowhere to sit and chill in the bar, it's all geared up for eating . I was expecting log fires and cosy corners but other than our dining table we were told we could stand at the bar to have a drink . I understand that as it's not really a local ( it's a tiny place with just a few houses) it doesn't warrant the loss of dining space for drinkers ,and obviously in the summer there's a huge beer garden . It would just have been nice not to go back to your room so early . However this certainly did not spoil our stay . It's a lovely place and we would thoroughly recommend staying there.

Excellent homemade, traditional English food. The Sunday dinner and haddock were absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommended. Prices were very reasonable for the Lake District and better than many chain pub restaurants.

Three nights B&B in this charming old inn. Lovely views from our room with external access and patio seating area. Breakfast, the food was excellent. The Rarebit with Poached Eggs are highly recommended. Very tasty Rarebit and perfectly poached eggs. Dinner, which we took each eveing as well was out of this world. Enourmous Sunday roasts, Delicious Venison & root vegetable cobbler, Duck breast with White Bean Cassoulet tasted wonderful and Cod with a mild curry sauce, yet another first class choice. Large portions left us with no room for starters or desserts. High praise for the Chefs and all the staff who were friendly and very efficient. Set in a stunning location with easy access to Bo'ness, Windermere, Ambleside and beyond.

Excellent 3 Star hotel with great food. Special thanks to Sarah for her excellent service who went above and beyond helping my wife and myself before and during our stay. All staff were very friendly and attentive. Lovely rural location, would return for a second visit.

A hidden gem amongst the glorious landscape. We had the gammon and chips it was worthy of a Michelin rating absolutely sublime and the pineapple chutney was a genius idea. Staff very friendly. Highly recommended. So glad we found this place

We have just spent a week near Windermere as a family and had two lovely meals at the Brown Horse Inn. Excellent food and friendly staff. We will come back as soon as possible. We had a variety of options from the menu, they have some nice vegetarian options. Fish and chips, ravioli with wild garlic pesto, chicken burger, all delicious

From warm welcome from staff, to every morsel of food, this was 5 star experience. Lovely atmosphere and each course was stunning. Waiter was so helpful and happy to chat about the pub and the food. Reasonably priced menu and plenty of choice. Fabulous

Spent the loveliest few days at the Pods at the Brown Horse Hotel Winster in the heart of the Lake District. This is local to me but felt like a million miles away from anywhere, we stayed in the Oresstt Head pod which is one of eight and is set just minutes from the pub up a little path, all the Pods have local names of places and are all individual. Our pod was just perfect for the weekend and I would certainly recommend to anyone near or far definitely a little gem to be found.
